I tried making crepes for breakfast and
they were okay, but we really need to get ourselves to a real French
creperie and enjoy the real thing.
The rain tapered off mid morning and by
noon, the sun was coming in and out. After lunch we walked 20
minutes into the old section of town to see the Bayeux Tapestry. It
technically is not a tapestry, despite its name, but wool embroidery
on linen. It depicts the story of how William the Bastard became
William the Conqueror and King of England. It is over 1,000 years
old and 240 feet long! An audioguide provided all the background
information and history of the Tapestry – just incredible.
One small scene from the huge Bayeux Tapestry |
After seeing the Tapestry, we walked
around the old part of the city where the festival was in full swing
– lots of folks dressed for the occasion. The streets were packed,
but we did get to admire the old buildings, including yet another
magnificent Notre Dame church.
