We are loving the Northern Peninsula! Port au Choix, Newfoundland July 25, 2017

We drove a a mile to the Salmon Interpretation Center where we saw a salmon ladder that the folks built so the salmon could head upriver without having to get up the insurmountable falls.  Some salmon still try for the falls and although we did see a few leaping through the air, I could not catch them on film (as they say).

Headed north about an hour to Port au Choix - archaeological site of Maritime archaic people. The artifacts showed  a hunter-gatherer society here more than 3,000 years ago, followed by multiple immigrant peoples taking advantage of the bountiful diversity of the sealife here, primarily the seals that migrate during the late winter/early spring.
Artists rendition of an early Dorset Tent-home.

Great unusual artist studio and his road signage was right-on!

We stopped at the nearby lighthouse for lunch and a nap - searching the ocean for whales and icebergs, but finding only one bald eagle, a flock of ducks and hordes of seagulls.  We did get to enjoy a small local caribou family that was in the area.

A few photos from town --

We got another fabulous campsite right on the water -- a Lion's club campground with great ocean views and WIFI.  What could be better?  Oh, a manhattan made with a real iceberg cube - I am told it tastes so much better than regular ice cubes.
