Ancestor's Trail - Western, Newfoundland July 16, 2017

We have been leapfrogging along the west coast of Newfoundland.   Today, we drove the Ancestor's Loop near Stephenville.  This area is French heritage and is known for their community bread ovens and beautiful scenery due to interesting geology.

Alpaca with a "Poodle" cut
Our first stop was at an alpaca farm where we visited with the newly shorn alpacas and checked out the gift shop with lots of hand knitted items made from alpaca wool.  Not much use for heavy alpaca items in South Carolina, but the items were beautiful.

Next was a small picnic park on the bay with a smooth rock beach and a pretty waterfall flowing over the rocks into the ocean.

This little bird kept running just ahead of me on the trail - some type of plover?

Stone Beach Art

We stopped at one of the bread ovens, but they do not make bread on Sundays - darn.

We also passed a massive strip mine and an oilfield - I think it may have been fracking, as no derricks or pumps.

Great scenery and roadside interests...

Daisies seem to be replacing the dandelions

Lupins, lilacs and strawberries all in season here

Another nice, low-key day.  Jack said this vacation has been like taking old-fashioned Sunday drives every day.  Still enjoying beautiful weather.  Stayed the night at the base of Marble Mountain - a big ski resort in winter.

Monday we picked up the drain valve part from the dealer and Jack installed it himself.  Voila!  Our water pump issue is resolved with a $17 plastic valve.

Golf at the Number 1 rated course in Newfoundland - Humber Valley Resort.  Life is good.
