June 18, Thursday: Fort St. John, British Columbia

Picked up Jack at the Edmonton airport Tuesday night and his flights were all on time with no problems.

Wednesday morning we had a nice breakfast, Jack unpacked and we spent some time doing RV housekeeping chores.  We stopped at the West Edmonton Mall, the largest in North America.  We only walked around a small portion, but saw the water park resort, the ice skating rink/hockey rink, and the amusement park along with stores, stores and more stores!  Got on the road heading northwest, driving through farmland with big open skies.  We stopped in a small town called Fox Creek and had a nice campsite among the pine trees.

Thursday, we continued to drive northwest, arriving in Dawson Creek about mid-afternoon.  The Alaska Highway was originally called the Alcan Highway, built to serve military bases in Alaska during WW II.  We stopped for photos of the Mile 0 monuments, then drove about an hour through rolling farm country on the Alaska Highway and stopped for the night at a campground in Fort St. John.  Will update hopefully in a few days when we get internet access again.
