HEADING OUT THROUGH NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS

 JUNE 5, 2022

Sunday morning I loaded the RV with the refrigerator and freezer items along with our toiletries and we got on the road around 10:30. First, dropping Jack's car at the local collision place for some minor damage repair and then headed west on I-26. Stopped for lunch and a couple doggie walks, and we arrived in Hendersonville, North Carolina around 4pm. Hendersonville is just east of Asheville and we stopped for the night at Red Gates Campground with a nice pond, a dog park and full utilities. We had picked up a take out dinner on our way; and after eating, watched a little TV and early to bed. A long day.

We took our time Monday morning and headed over to the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway a short drive from Asheville. We browsed the incredible pottery, stained glass, textiles and other museum quality crafts but nothing screamed “buy me” so we continued on our way west to Cherokee.

We had campground reservations at another small park called Bradley's in Cherokee. They gave us a gorgeous site right on the Oconaluftee River and we watched the families tubing through the small rapids. We were originally going to go to the highly rated “Unto these Hills” outdoor drama that chronicles the history of the Cherokee people, including the Trail of Tears.

We were captivated by our river front site and the weather forecast changd and called for possible rain during the performance, so we decided to do the drama another time and just enjoyed the evening by the river.

On to Tennessee and Kentucky!
