Spent the night in 90 degree temps with AC running constantly in Lajitas, Texas. Right on the Rio Grande just outside Big Bend National Park, it is a popular snowbird place, but we had the campground to ourselves as no one wants to be here in the summer.
We drove north along the Rio Grande on the El Camino del Rio. Beautiful scenery--cliffs, hoodoos, and lots of views of the Rio Grande. The road itself twists along with the Rio grande and goes up and down like a roller coaster in places - a fabulous scenic drive.

Stopped in the small town of Marfa and did some laundry, then drove eight miles east on US 90 to the Marfa Lights Viewing Center. Sundown is at 9:45 and we understand the mysterious lights most often occur right after dusk. They have displays about the mysterious lights that have been seen here since the 1800s and have taken on a life of their own. No scientific explanation has been found yet to explain all the lights and we are hoping they will appear tonight.
