Jack and I shared a wonderful lunch with his childhood friend, Marc Goldsmith and his wife, Terri. Lots of shared memories for the men and Terri and I got to know to each other...a very special day.
After lunch, we drove Route 1 through old-time Connecticut towns along the coast, then north through Lyme and to Devil's Hopyard State Park. A small campground, no facilities, but a pretty little waterfall nearby, called Clapman Falls.
I just found your blog a few days ago and have been enjoying reading all your trip blogs. Makes me want to hit the road. My gf and I have four more years before we retire and start our travels. For now we just camp in our travel trailer at locations no more than a few hours from home.
ReplyDeleteI had a question about your trips. Do you plan out all of your stops and your camping sites, of do you just pick them out as you go?
Thanks for the great reading
Great question! I make a list of all the things I want to see. Then I rough out a route (we avoid interstates and major highways as much as possible). We never make advance campsite reservations except at some of the national park high season times. We will usually call ahead after lunch to make sure a campground is open and a site is available. The only problems we have had have been weekends (especially holidays) in popular tourist/camping areas and an occasional chance encounter with some big event in the area that tied up all the sites.
