We decided to drive the few kilometers
to Versailles because we will not be staying at the campground again
tonight. We had a difficult time finding the parking lot for Rvs and
then we had problems figuring out how to pay for the parking spot at
the machine. Another confused camper figured it out – the English
version was missing some options, so he helped us enter our info in
German.

We had been warned to get to Versailles
early, ahead of the bus tours, but we didn't get there until 11:30 –
and it was packed! Long lines to get in that snaked back and forth
across the huge plaza in front of the Palace, Disneyland style.
Then, halfway to the entrance, I realized I had lost the tickets
sometime while in line. I retraced my steps and asked a couple of
folks, rechecked my pockets and purse for the third time, but there
were just gone. We were getting ready to leave when a man came up
and asked if we were looking for tickets and that he had found two on
the ground. Wow!

The crowds and heat were oppressive
inside and outside the Palace and Jack was having a difficult time
with both. We rushed through everything, skipped the gardens
altogether and got back to the RV for a late lunch and a nap in the
air conditioning, using the generator. (We were in a parking lot and
not bothering anyone with our noise.)
We headed East towards Luxembourg and
stopped at a campground that was apparently fairly close to
Disneyland, based on the Disney cartoon characters we saw about.
When I asked about a site, the woman said the person ahead of me was
out looking at the last site, but if they did not want it, we could
have it. Of course, they took the last site in a campground for
miles around, so we headed to another spot about ½ hour away where
we got a nice spot out in the countryside. Not only do they have
adequate amperage so we can run the AC, but there is a washer and
dryer right next to us and INTERNET THAT WORKS!!!! We will stay here
an extra day to do laundry, do some general maintenance and cleaning
and relax..
I ordered a baguette and a couple of
croissants for tomorrow and we are set. What a strange good news/bad
news day!
